Black Lists like Sorbs Suck |
||||
Who are they? - They are a blacklist that lists servers that send mail to one of their spam traps or is listed by a third party.
They list all senders as a spam source for 1 year or until you pay them $50 Why we don't agree with their practice: Unlike other black lists that operate to protect the internet from spam by listing servers and then delisting them should the problem be sorted out, sorbes asks the listed ip's owner to pay a "fine" which goes toward them or a charity or their choice. This has been dubed as "black mail". As a shared hosting provider we often can't control who our clients send mails to, we do however set in place restrictions to prevent people from sending Bulk Mails from our servers. We limit the sending of email to 250 per hour through our servers. We do not condone spamming, we also get rid of offending accounts should we be made aware of them. Sorbs lists server in their grey/black/rbl list and causes emails not to be delivered to ISPs that use their black list - To delist they want the "offending" ISP to pay $50 - which apparently goes towards a legal fund for a case which has ended many years ago. (October of 2002.) We have decided not pay this fine, and suggest that all ISPs using their services stop using sorbs - again we do not spam and do not condone it, we're also very quick to remove offending sites and sources from our servers. A simple search for "sorbs sucks", will bring up many interesting sites. We feel that it's blackmail and will not donate to their "cash cow". We suggest that ISPs use Spamhaus - www.spamhaus.org or Spamcop - spamcop.net They are reputable and are not in this for the money. |
