Change permissions on files via FTP.

You can alter the permissions on a folders or files via FTP. Some PHP programs require that you make folders writeable before they can be used.

Log into your account via FTP - we will use Filezilla.

Right-click on the folder or file. and select "File attributes" from the drop down list.

Alter the permission to the desired value. and click on ok.
